Non-Sked Airlines  - A selection of photographs

The non-scheduled airlines which popped up after WW II (or Non-Skeds as they are colloquially known) were designed to provide cheap air transportation
for that section of the community which, hitherto, had considered regular air transportation too expensive.  In providing this service, the returning WW II
aviators who founded them were also looking, obviously, to make a profit for themselves.  Hundreds if not thousands of C-46s, C-47s and C-54s could
be had for a song, and these provided the backbone for this, largely unregulated, section of air transport.     The true height of the Non-sked days were
before I came to the United States.  They were still operating, albeit sporadically when I emigrated in 1958 so many of the shots are my own.    However,
there are two true "gurus" of this segment of aviation.    They are the indefatigable William T. ("Bill") Larkins of Pleasant Hill (formerly Concord) California
and John T. Corpening of Chicago.    John produced a Xeroxed copy, spiral bound book entitled "Forgotten Flights" which is an encyclopedia of these
airlines.   He was ably assisted in that task by aviation historian and memorabilia Charles C. Quarles of Forest City, NC.   Most of the photos in this
section are, subsequently, from the Bill Larkins collection, whilst much of the historical detail has been gleaned from John's publication.
