Rare photograph from the Mike
Sparkman collection showing a DC-3 in Turner Airlines titling.
After his barnstorming and air
racing days were done the legendary Roscoe Turner founded the
Roscoe Turner Aeronautical Corporation, a large fixed-base operator
located in Indianapolis,
Indiana. In 1947 the
CAB granted him authority to operate AM88. This route was later
flown
by Nationwide Airlines although
Turner reclaimed it and renamed his airline Lake
Central Airlines
in
1951. N21711 was one of half a dozen DC-3s acquired from
Northwest by Turner in 1949.
