Mid-Continent
Airlines Douglas DC-3 NC34950
(c/n 7399)
This
DC-3 was an ex C-53-DO acquired by MCA in 1946. It passed to the Braniff Airways
asset register in
August 1952 when that company took over Mid-Continent. By that
time the
carrier was operating a
fleet of 23 Douglas DC-3's and four Convair 240's over 6,241
unduplicated
route miles, and
serving 35 cities from Minneapolis/St. Paul and the Dakotas in the
north to Houston
and New Orleans in the
south. N34950 was sold to Lake Central Airlines in 1959.
Somewhere
around 1948 the livery was changed, dropping the "Airlines' and
changing the logo aft of the door
as seen on N21914 in this Leo Kohn shot below at Chicago. C/n 4965,
N21914 was an original
DC-3-414A formerly with United as NC33686. It also went to
Braniff in 1952.
