VH-WFU de Havilland
D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA205)
Civilianized in June 1949 as VH-BNW,
this Tiger was formerly A17-204. When acquired by
Aero Service in 1959 it was re-registered into
the Wesfarmers block as VH-WFU. It is seen
above in this shot by Geoff
Goodall at Williams, WA on 3 July 1960, following a forced landing
into some trees. The pilot
received no injuries in this accident although shortly afterward DCA
grounded all agricultural Tigers anyway, due to their high pilot
fatality rate. VH-WFU was retired
at Maylands in 1963 and sold
to Bob Couper Co at Cunderdin, becoming yet another in the large
cache of Tiger
Moths Couper had accumulated.. After extensive restoration, it
became VH-JAU,
and flies as such today (in modified warbird
scheme) . The shot below, from the Ken Watson
collection (via Phil Vabre), shows it at Camden, NSW in June 2011.
