VH-AHB de
Havilland D.H.114 Heron 1B (c/n 14006)
One hundred and fifty D.H. Herons were built
by de Havillands. Basically a four engine
Dove, it
was never a very great commercial success. Butler Air
Transport
acquired two
of them.
(The
other was VH-ARB). However,
they
didn't really suit Butler's short
haul
routes to
up-state NSW, and were only operated in the years
1952-56. VH-AHB is seen
above awaiting
passengers for a
flight to Bathurst, NSW in 1953. Prior to emigrating to
Australia
it was G-AMUK. It returned to the UK in 1956 and resumed
its old identity.
In the
event it was broken up at the
Staravia dump in Lasham, Hants, England soon after its
repatriation.
