Seversky XP-41

                              

                                A less than stunning Republic Aircraft image of this Thunderbolt (well, Lancer anyway) antecedent.
                                It was actually the last P-35 produced with an engine change to incorporate the 1,200 h.p. Pratt &
                                Whitney R-1830-19 equipped with a turbo supercharger.  In the event, the Lancer was given the
                                green light for production, and only one XP-41 was built.  Both it and the Lancer contributed to the
                                design which would eventually become the world beating P-47.
