Bristol 14 F.2b Fighter
From Stephen Mills in East
Africa comes this interesting shot of a Bristol Fighter. The
inscription on
the fuselage reads "Presented by Government of
Zanzibar - Zanzibar No. 19". Clearly, just as
contributions from colonies,
communities, factories, etc. were translated into hardware in WW II,
so were they in WW I.
In fact, if Zanzibar actually funded 19 aircraft that
represented a huge
contribution per head of
population! This Fighter saw action on the Western
Front in 1918 and
RFC/RAF Lt. Robert James
Cullen shot down at least three Fokker D.VIIs in it in June of that
year.
