1923 Lympne Trials No 6   Avro 560                  (c/n  probably 1)

In 1923 the Air Ministry, with financial support from the Daily Mail newspaper and the Duke of
Sutherland sponsored a competition for single seat light aircraft development.  These were held at
Lympne, in Kent.  Avro, (whose test pilot at the time was notable Australian aviator Bert Hinckler)
entered the model 560. In the event, most of the machines viying for prizes in the 1923 competition
were far too light to be considered to be serious aeroplanes, and in 1924 the ante was upped to
include two seat models.   So far as I know the above aircraft was never assigned a G-E--- series
                               registration.
