PP-PDB  Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina                     (c/n  22021)

For their Amazonian services after WW II Panair owned a fleet of eight or so PBY-5As.  This
shot was taken late enough (1950s) for the aircraft to have effected a white top.  As is somewhat
common with flying boats operating in inland waters, this one met its end when it hit a submerged
object on the Amazon River at Parantins, Brazil on 18 April 1956.  The accident virtually broke
the 'boat in two. Three of the 12 souls on board were killed.
