ZS-ACA de Havilland D.H.80A Puss
Moth
(c/n 2008)
ZS-ACA was the first of eight Puss
Moths imported by de Havilland Aircraft of South Africa
(Pty) from Oct
1930 thru Jan 1931 (the year I was born). Several, like -ACA were
destined
for the Johannesburg Light Aeroplane Club and based at Baragwanath. It
was named 'Alpha II'.
Incidentally I visited this field in 1949, although back then most of
what I spotted were new
American imports such as Cessna 120s and 140s, Beech Bonanzas and Erco
Ercoupes with
the odd Tiger
still around, plus several ex-military Fairchild 24Rs, and most of
these were in
hangars. Anyway, ZS-ACA was written off at Vereeniging on
11 November 1934. Was it
performing perhaps at an Armistice air show?
