Wien Alaska Airways
Stinson SB-1 Detroiter NC5262
(c/n 5)
This historic shot is from the
archives of the Anchorage Museum of History & Art and was taken
by Noel Wien himself. It depicts
the two aircraft with which Wien Alaska Airways began services;
the Stinson SB-1 Detrioter and NC10002, the Hamilton H-45 Metalplane
seen outside the company
hangar in 1929.
The Detroiter was the former Wilkins Expedition "Detroit New 2".
Wien merely
changed the name on the
fuselage and left the underwing titling intact. This aircraft .is
shown again
below in a photograph from
Robert W. Steven fabulous publication "Alaskan Aviation History"
(Polynyas Press,
1990).
