Western Air Lines  Lockheed L-188A  Electra  N9744C       (c/n  1140)

                                       

                                              Western were one of the first airlines to order the Electra, eventually possessing a fleet of twelve
                                              of them.  They flew with the airline for the decade of the 1960s and were then replaced with pure
                                              jets.  Seen above is N9744C on the day of its delivery in 1961, having just made the twenty-five
                                              mile trip from Lockheed's in Burbank.    This machine was later converted to the L-188PF mixed
                                              passenger/freighter variant and sold to Reeve Aluetian Airways in Alaska in 1970.
