Pickwick Airways Ryan B-5 Brougham
NC314K
(c/n 213)
Pickwick Airways was founded in March 1939 by Charles F.
Wren. It opened with a
three times daily service
from, Los Angeles to San Diego, using Bach 3-CT-8 Air Yachts.
This was quickly expanded to services to San Francisco and Mexico
City. Fairchild
FC-2s and
Ryan Ryan Broughams were added to the fleet. The above shot is
from
a post card I picked
up in a San Diego jumble sale. Wren then extended (over-extended)
services to Guatemala City and San Salvador whereby the aircraft were
titled Pickwick
Latin
American Airways . Can you imagine flying from Mexico City to
Guatemala City
in a Ryan
B-5! Whether Wren thought he could compete with Pan
American or not is
not known, but by 1930 the airline had dissolved.
