National
Airlines Lockheed L188 Electra N5014K
(c/n 1148)
National were an early operator of the Allison 501
turboprop powered Electra, putting them into
service in the summer of 1959 (about the same time that Western
did). Two liveries are shown
on this page. The upper shot shows the original "Airline of the
Stars" scheme. This shot was by
Tom Modlin and is presented here courtesy of the Jennifer Gradidge
collection. The lower image
of
N5006K shows the revised livery adopted in 1960 when the DC-8s were put
into service. This
shot was taken by Douglas Olson at Miami, circa 1960 and also comes
from the Jennifer Gradidge
collection. Both Electras were sold off to Pan Aero International
Corporation in 1968 and led
varied careers after that.
