Los Angeles
Airways Sikorsky S-51 Unknown registration
Los Angeles Airways was
incorporated in May 1944 by a group of Southern California business-
men to fly air mail services from LAX to four
points in the Southland. Operations did not actually
commence until 22 May 1947 when a
small fleet of five S-51s flew to (a) the downtown post
office, (b) the San Fernando
Valley, (c) San Bernardiono and (d) Newport Beach. My shot was
taken on the Imperial
Highway side of the airport in 1959. By that time
the CAB authorized
LAA to fly passengers.
