Hawaiian
Airlines Lockheed L-1011-50 Tristar N762BE
(c/n 1070)
Operated in the mid 1980s on South Pacific charter operations (and
later on the West Coast main-
land routes), the Tristars were the first wide
bodies for HAL. Thery were replaced with DC-10s
a decade later. (I
personally preferred the Lockheed aircraft over the latter). The
airline had eight
Tristars (mainly ex All Nippon Airways machines) all
except one of which were converted to series
50 status.
These conversions were done by Boeing Equipment Corp, hence the "BE"
registration
suffix. They were leased to HAL by the Meridian Bank.
Frank C. Duarte Jr caught N762BE
departing LAX for Honolulu
in March of 1993. This aircraft had originally been built in 1974 as
JA8506.
