Hawaiian Airlines  Lockheed L-1011-50 Tristar   N762BE     (c/n  1070)

                                    

                                        Operated in the mid 1980s on South Pacific charter operations (and later on the West Coast main-
                                        land routes), the Tristars were the first wide bodies for HAL.  Thery were replaced with DC-10s
                                        a decade later.  (I personally preferred the Lockheed aircraft over the latter).  The airline had eight
                                        Tristars (mainly ex All Nippon Airways machines) all except one of which were converted to series
                                        50 status. These conversions were done by Boeing Equipment Corp, hence the "BE" registration
                                        suffix.  They were leased to HAL by the Meridian Bank.   Frank C. Duarte Jr caught N762BE
                                        departing LAX for Honolulu in March of 1993. This aircraft had originally been built in 1974 as
                                        JA8506.
