In the early 1950s, in an attempt to update
their DC-3s, several of them were converted to have
large
"vista windows" (the better to give the haoles a better view of the
islands). Main wheel gear
doors
were also fitted at that time (Super DC-3 style). N33606,
Hawaiian's
very first DC-3, was
so
converted, as were N13437,N67872, N67873 and N95469 (there may have
been others).
Seen below is a color shot by Ron Rye
(via the Maurice Austin collection) taken at Honolulu in
the
1960s.
