Golden West Airlines
Grumman G-21A Goose N93G (c/n 1130)
In 1968 Golden West
Airlines took over the operation of the (by now) defunct Catalina Air
Lines
(formerly Avalon Air
Transport). Five Grumman G-21As passed to their asset register
and the
service to Avalon Harbor was
maintained until about 1973 when the operation was taken over
by yet another "Catalina Airlines"
(no relation to Dick Probert's earlier airline of the same name).
This absolutely stunning image was
taken by Bob Garrard at Long Beach in July of 1970. Despite
the
"Catalina" on the nose, that appendage never was part of the official
corporate title.
