Catalina Vegas Airlines de Havilland D.H.104 Dove 6A
N4041B (c/n 04385)
As the name suggests, this airline provided
service from North Las Vegas Airport to Catalina
Island,
with a stop at Palm Springs, California, where this shot was taken in
1960. It owned
a couple
of D.H. Doves and the odd Beech 18 or two. In the mid 1960s the
airline shifted its
operation to
link San Diego and Orange County Airport (now John Wayne) with
Catalina, pulling
out of
Las Vegas completely. This was later expanded to include Tijuana,
Mexico. Oddly, it did
not change its
name at that time. N4041B was originally imported from
Canada (ex CF-GBW)
and went
on to serve with Air Wisconsin in the mid 1960s. It was written
off in a crash at Moses
Lake, Washington in 1973 when an engine failed on take off and the prop
did not feather.
