Braniff
International Airways British Aerospace Corp BAC-111
N1541 (c/n 15)
In 1961 Braniff took a bold step and
ordered a non-US built jet to replace its aging Convairs.
Here, the initial delivery
aircraft of an order for 14 is seen taking off from the manufacturer's
runway at Hurn, just outside
Bournemouth in the U.K. The date was 9 June 1964.
BAC-111s were used on Braniff's medium density domestic routes
commencing in 1965.
The fleet was sold off to
Allegheny Airlines in 1972 although this particular aircraft went to
the Stewart Lumber Company
becoming N5LC.
