American
Airlines BAC-111 N5015
(c/n 55)
The Boeing 727 proved to be too large for many of American's regional
routes and accordingly
the airline turned to the British
Aircraft Corporation to solve this problem . A fleet of thirty
BAC-111s was ordered, the first of which,
N5015, is seen above. The new aircraft were
delivered towards the end of 1965, by which
time both Braniff and Mohawk already had them
in service. American's 111s were used on
regional routes out of La Guardia, Chicago O'Hare,
Milwaukee and St. Louis. N5015
was sold to National Aircraft Leasing in 1973.
