ZK-AYE de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n 82888)
Another of those
"better than nothing" images..................This Tiger was owned by
the
Nelson Aero Club when it was parked out
here among the tree stumps in 1952. This
aircraft was previously NZ879 with
the RNZAF and civilianized in 1949 (although not
registered
until 1951). The Aero Club sold it off in 1957 to A. Blechynden
but the transfer
paperwork was not done and the CAA
cancelled it from the register. It rejoined the
register
with the new allocated registration of ZK-BVK in January
1958. It was later
sold to W. Scott of
Karangahua in 1958. ZK-AYE broke up in flight 10 miles north
of Otorohanga on 7 May 1958 killing
both pilot and passenger. At the time of the
accident the new registration had still
not been applied to the aircraft. Seems as if it
had been dogged by registration
problems right to the very end.
