ZK-AWG      de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth            (c/n  DHNZ149)

                                    

                                        This machine was ex-RNZAF NZ1469 and was civilianized in 1949 for the Rotorua and Bay
                                        of Plenty Aero Club.  It was not actually used by the club but onsold to Auckland Aviation Services
                                        Ltd in whose service it is seen here at Auckland in 1952. It was originally used as a company hack
                                        but was later converted to a topdresser.  This aircraft made 3445 takeoffs at 2000lb without mishap
                                        during a 3 month period in early 1952.   Ironically, it crashed at Glen Murray on a ferry flight in Feb
                                        1953 after stalling in a turn and spinning into the ground, seriously injuring pilot Mike McVeigh.
