ZK-AWG
de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHNZ149)
This machine was ex-RNZAF NZ1469 and was
civilianized in 1949 for the Rotorua and Bay
of Plenty Aero Club.
It was not actually used by the club but onsold to Auckland Aviation
Services
Ltd in whose service it is seen
here at Auckland in 1952. It was originally used as a company hack
but was later converted to a topdresser. This
aircraft made 3445 takeoffs at 2000lb without mishap
during a 3 month period in
early 1952. Ironically, it crashed at Glen Murray on a
ferry flight in Feb
1953 after stalling in a
turn and spinning into the ground, seriously injuring pilot Mike
McVeigh.
