ZK-AVP
de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA490)
ZK-AVP was an Australian built Tiger
which served in the RNZAF as NZ1404. It was originally
registered
ZK-ALQ with the South Canterbury Aero Club in 1947. It crashed on
1 Oct 1949
when it spun into the ground from
3000 feet. The wreckage was purchased from the club in 1950
by Airwork NZ Ltd who rebuilt
it. It then re-entered the register as ZK-AVP as a
topdresser.
Following another accident it was
repaired and sold to Rural Aviation Ltd of New Plymouth in
1953. It crashed again near
Maxwell on 26 January 1955 and was finally cancelled from the
register the following
year. Incidently, the dark colored car in the backgound is
a 1940 Austin
10 Cambridge.
