ZK-ASA   de Havilland D.H.82a Tiger Moth                        (c/n  3630)
      
                               

                                        This was the former ZK-AFO, impressed into service in WW II as NZ2720.
                                        Released from RNZAF service in 1948 it became as ZK-ASA. (New Zealand
                                        did not civilianize its aircraft with the original registration, but gave them new ones).
                                        It was issued (free) to the Hawera Aero Club and sold by them to Air Contracts
                                        Ltd of Masterton as a top-dresser.  It is seen above is this poor quality shot  just
                                        after delivery to that company in 1948. . Converted back to normal configuration
                                        in late 1956 it had a series of owners over the years winding up with the late John
                                       Galpin of Te Puke in August 1981 and canceled from the register.     It was re-
                                       registered as ZK-AFO on 6 November 1981, and was supposedly undergoing
                                       restoration by Johns' son Tim who is an aircraft mechanic.   Status unknown as
                                      of 2020..
