ZK-AQD de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA499)
This was a de Havilland (Australia) Pty Ltd built Tiger which was
delivered to the Royal New
Zealand Air Force in
December of 1941 as NZ1413. When declared surplus (1948) it was
sold to the Piako Aero Club of Whenuapai. That club carried a
fleet number on the tail, as Jim
Dyson's
shot above (via David Molesworth) illustrates. Number seven was sold to
Aircraft
Services
Ltd in 1952 for use as a topdresser. It later went to
Thames Aerial Topdressing Co
Ltd.
ZK-AQD crashed near Kerata on 20 February 1956 and was written
off.
