ZK-APP de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n 82302)
Originally the RAF's N9185, but
shipped to New Zealand to become NZ854. Civilianized in 1947
for A. Baker of Wigram in
1947. It originally had a canopy but that was discarded after it
was sold
to Hawkes Bay Aerial Topdressing Co Ltd in 1950, in
whose service it is seen here (could that be
the farmer's house?).. It was then sold on to
a number of topdressing outfits, finally ending up with
Aerial Agriculture Ltd in 1955. It was
withdrawn from use in 1959, languished somewhere for 35
years and then rejoined the
register with I. Pirie of Nelson. ZK-APP, despite its bedraggled
appearance above, is still
currently airworthy in New Zealand.
