Piper PA-18A-135 (c/n
18-4135)
When import restrictions eased in the mid-1950s in New Zealand, most
topdressing concerns
upgraded their
geriatic Tiger Moth fleets with more modern types. The Piper
Super Cub was
an excellent
workhorse and had been modified by the manufacturer specifically for
agricultural
operations.. The minuscule registration on the rudder (in vogue
at the time) is difficult to decipher
(actually impossible in this image). This particular Cub is still
flying, mounted on skis, and is now
registered to Gavin
Wills, the well known Mount Cook Alpine Guide.
