ZK-BDH de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA320)
This
Tiger was one of the three wrecks and relics from Australia acquired in
1953 by
Aircraft Service NZ
Ltd (along with ZK-BDA and ZK-BDG) and rebuilt, this one
becoming their number 12. . It was formerly A17-301, civilianized as
VH-BDW, and
originally owned by Woollongong and
South Coast Air Services. It was withdrawn from
use in
1948. In 1953 it was
rebuilt and put into operation as a topdresser with Aircraft
Service in
Auckland. In 1963
it went to Weedair. After being withdrawn again in
1965,
it was restored a year
later to T. Williams of Masterton. ZK-BDH crashed at Motueka on
24 October 1976 and
was listed this time as "destroyed". Research indicates that this
one
is unlikely to be entered
onto the register again.
