ZK-AHO Beech
AT-11
Kansan
(c/n 3691)
Very few Beech
Kansans made it onto the civil aircraft registers of the world (even in
the
US) and hence this is something of a
rarity. Beech Aircraft built two versions of their model
18 as U.S. Army
trainers. The AT-7 was basically a straight D-18C primarily for
navigator
training, whilst the AT-11 had a glazed
nose for bombardiers to practice their art. This AT-11
(formerly 42-37208) found its way on to
the New Zealand Civil Register in 1947 and was
operated by N.Z.
Aerial Mapping Co. It has been preserved and is on display
at Auckland's
Museum of Transport and Technology.
