VH-UYX    de Havilland D.H.87B Hornet Moth                     (c/n   8139)

                                

                             
     This machine spent all of its life, from November 1937 until it was struck off the register in 1963, in NSW.
                                  Originally it was delivered to the Newcastle Aero Club.    This photograph was taken at Bankstown in the
                                  early 1950s.   On 19 February 1949 -UYX crashed on take off from Casino Airport, NSW.   The rough
                                  photo below is from the Brisbane Courier-Mail for 21 February 1949.    Pilot John Roberts, aged 18 and
                                  his 17 year old brother, the passenger, were seriously injured.      Incredibly (looking at the damage) the
                                  Hornet was repaired and reappeared again in June 1953, registered to J. Neal of Tamworth.
