170As were not that common in
Australia. John Wheatley saw -SNE above around
1970 whilst
Greg
Banfield's shot with it in the same livery was at Bankstown in January
1969
(below). Much
later, in August
1998, Tony Arbon took a photo of it (bottom of page) at Redcliffe,
Queensland.
The Cessna was first registered on 11 February 1959 to C..A. Holmes of
Inverell, NSW, ex
N1285D. It had a
series of owners, mainly in the
NSW wheatbelt , and crashed at
Gunnedah,
NSW in August 1976. It apparently remained
inoperative then for some sixteen years when it
was
restored to the
register (in October 1992).
Following a couple more owners in NSW it
was
sold back the U.S. as, oddly, N1288D. (I assume its original rego
had been passed to another
aircraft and
this was close).
