VH-MQC Aero Commander 100 Darter Commander
(c/n 119)
Ex N5533M, this Darter Commander was imported
in December 1967. Both photos here are
by
Greg Banfield, the above being at Bankstown in April 1972, whilst below
it is seen departing
Wedderburn, NSW in November 1983. The Aero Commander 100
was developed from the
Volair Model
10, a few examples of which were built in Aliquippa, Pa
before the embryo manu-
facturing facility was taken over by Aero Commander, (later
Rockwell) and this rather ugly for-
ward-swept tail machine was named Darter. In 1968 a
slightly
more conventional looking air-
craft
with swept-back tail surfaces was produced known as the Lark Commander.
VH-MQC
is still on
the register and still based at Bankstown.
