VH-FWB Piel CP-304 Emeraude 85
(c/n 339)

The 1964 R.M. Ansett Air Race from
Brisbane to Adelaide was populated with a variety of
aircraft.
This petite Emeraude was one entry. Normally home-built, this
Emeraude had been
assembled by Martins Industries in Camden, NSW. In 1968 it was
converted to a CP-320
with a 100 hp Continental engine and given a new c/n of N5. It
was written off in a crash at
Gunnedah, NSW on 18 September 1983. Geoff Goodall's shot of
it (below) was taken at
Adeliade Airport in April 1962.
