VH-EBM Douglas
DC-4-1009
(c/n 42918)
VH-EBM was the
second of the ex-Western Air Lines DC-4s. It was built as
N10203 and
sold to ANA as VH-ANG.
Qantas acquired it in 1949. It is seen here at Mascot in 1954.
After ten years
with QANTAS (it was converted to freighter configuration towards the
end of
its tenure with that airline) it was
sold in the USA to Zantop Air Transport as N600Z. It
was
acquired by Trans Mediterranean Airways
(TMA) in 1962 becoming OD-AEC, and was used
in their freight operation. In July
of 1962, after only three months with TMA it crashed into the
sea at Brindisi,
Italy, killing all six crew
members. The image of -EBM below, recived via Jim
Sweeney is
from Bellinger Valley Museum. collection and was taken at Coff's
Harbour, NSW
in the mid-1950s
