VH-BAL de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n 82561/DHA 7)
This Tiger was assembled at Mascot from a
fuselage supplied by D.H.s in Hatfield and locally
built
wings. It was delivered to the RAAF in 1939 as A17-7.
Civilianized in 1947, it acquired
a Canadian
style canopy somewhere along the way. The above shot, from the
John Oxley Library,
State Library of
Queensland collection shows it at Archerfield in the mid
1940s. Almost forty years
on, it was seen in the nice color shot below by Greg
Banfield at Maitland, NSW in April 1977.
It is still (2008) on the
register, and still based in NSW. Ken Tilley took a photo
of it, (foot of
the page, sans
canopy), at Coffs Harbour in
January of 1982 (below). Into the new millennium it
was
still wearing the same livery, although I have
not seen any truly contemporary images of it. .
