VH-ABF (3)  de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth                  (c/n  DHA836)

The third VH-ABF was one of those Tigers built orginally for Empire Flying Training scheme in
Rhodesia but transferred instead, at the outbreak of the war, to the RAAF as A17-704.  It is
still currently on the register.   The two shots on this page are both from the Geoff Goodall
collection.  The above one was taken at Swan Hill in 1965, whilst in the lower image at an
air show at Mangalore, Vic in 1968 the Tiger had begun to succumb to the overwhelming
desire of owners to dress their birds up in 'warbird" paint, albeit in this early case a very
unauthentic scheme.   At the foot of the page is a photo taken by Jeff Atkinson (via Nigel
Daw) of Tiger Moth A17-704 at Moorabbin in 1958 just after it came down from RAAF
Tocumwal.  Although sold to the Aero Club of Southern Tasmania, on 13 June 1958 it was
not issued its civil registration until 19 November 1959.
